Historic Hico, Texas is found in the Texas hill country, about 1-1/2 hours South of Fort Worth (DFW), an hour NW of Waco, 3 hours North of San Antonio & 2 hours East of Abilene. It is not uncommon to see cowboys (or cowgirls) on horseback riding right through the town and sometimes hitching their rides to the many hitching posts in front of some of the shops and restaurants. There are phenomenal shops to browse and shop in, amazing eateries to dine at, lots of wine & beverages to sip on and lots of ‘to do’s in and around this special little town. From the specialty shops like the local Chocolatier ‘Wiseman’s’ and Hico Popcorn Works, to numerous boutiques, eateries, this town has so much to offer.

Bike and Jogging TrailS:
Next to Siloville (above), there is a very large biking and jogging trail that stretches around three city parks. The first, if you head East, you’ll go around the baseball fields, and then head back West and go under the 281 bridge and over to another small intimate park, then return and turn South crossing the bosque river bridge and to bike or walk through our large city park too! Luckily, in Hico, there are many great weather days to be able to frequent our parks.

Carriage Rides:
Although this is not a constant, you will occasionally find Bobby Kerr, our own local and famous cowboy and rodeo star, giving carriage rides on Friday or Saturday nights. You’ll sometimes see him on weekend evenings when he’s in town and not at a rodeo and if he’s there you can’t miss him! There’s nothing quite like a stroll through Pecan Street via horse and carriage ride with a blanket on your legs while you get a front row view of the lights and shops in downtown Hico.

Be sure to find the Hico sign smack dab in the middle of town. Be sure to snap a cell phone picture of you and your party holding up the dot over the i to complete your image!

ART:
There are various local artists works found throughout the town in many of the restaurants and retail shops. There are too many to list, however. I feel you’ll be amazed by the craftsmanship and details you’ll find in every piece you view. I, myself, am also a part time artist in addition to being a professional photographer. I mainly paint oils on canvas from landscapes to portraits, livestock to equine and farm and ranch pieces. Be sure to tag me when you come across my work!

Hico Hall puts on a lot of various concerts within their historic rock venue throughout the year. Most of their entertainment is local Texan musicians who have enormous talent. Gravel Locos:
Every spring Gravel Locos puts on an amazing gravel bike race in Hico, TX that is sought after from armature to professional gravel bike riders worldwide. It is quite a site and one to watch if you’re not riding.
Christmas Light Parade:
This is just one of many events put on by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Texas Steak Cookoff:
BBQ and Steak fanatics come from all over the nation for this one! There are hundreds of competitors preparing the perfect steak. You can try them all and place your votes too. Texas Steak Cookoff
